As a result of a recent decision by the US Department of Commerce, Russian company Kaspersky Lab is transferring all of its US customers of its antivirus software to Pango Group. This deal will allow customers to continue to receive antivirus protection, but now under the UltraAV brand, owned by Pango Group.
Customers from the US will no longer be able to download Kaspersky applications from https://usa.kaspersky.com or my.kaspersky.com. Downloading mobile applications through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store will also no longer be available. The Kaspersky Protection browser extension/plugin will no longer be available for download from extension stores. The restrictions will not affect the availability of Kaspersky solutions or ongoing product support for customers from other countries. Customers from other countries can download Kaspersky applications from kaspersky.com and https://my.kaspersky.com.
Let us remind you that at the moment, updates to the latest versions of Kaspersky are available for private clients for the following Kaspersky Lab antivirus solutions with an English interface:
Kaspersky Antivirus
Kaspersky Internet Security
Kaspersky Internet Security for Mac
Kaspersky Small Office Security
Kaspersky Total Security
Kaspersky Safe Kids
The ability to purchase, update, and download products on usa.kaspersky.com has been suspended. The ability to make purchases through other websites may also be limited for users visiting the site from the United States and for U.S. customers. Customers from other countries can purchase and update applications on kaspersky.com and their local websites (links above).
Reasons for the transfer
In July of this year, the U.S. Department of Commerce banned sales of Kaspersky antivirus software in the United States. This decision is due to long-standing concerns by the U.S. government that Russian intelligence agencies could use Kaspersky Lab to spy on users. Due to this ban, current U.S. customers of Kaspersky Lab would no longer be able to receive software updates as of September 29, 2024.
How the transition will be carried out
All customers using Kaspersky antivirus software in the United States will be automatically transferred to the UltraAV product from Pango Group. For users, this means that no active actions will be required on their part — all information about the transition and further steps will be sent via email notifications. The Pango support team will also be ready to help if questions arise. Neil Feather, President and COO of Pango Group, noted that about a million Kaspersky antivirus users from the United States will be included in the Pango ecosystem. He also emphasized that the company has prepared the necessary resources for a smooth transition of users to the new product.
